The trip in brief

You will start your trip at the Spiš Castle. You can park your car in the parking lot below the castle. It is a 5-minute walk from the parking lot to the castle.

The small Rock Town of Dreveník is located near the Spiš Castle. You may drop your car at the parking lot by the Spiš Castle, and it is a 15-minute walk from there. The other option is to park your car in the village of Hodkovce and from there continue along the green trail, or from the town of Spišské Podhradie along the yellow tourist trail.

Spiš Castle

The Spiš Castle is a unique medieval castle ruin, which rises majestically on top of a travertine mound. It dominates the surrounding area and is one of the most valuable historical landmarks in the whole country. The oldest written mention of the castle dates to 1120. 

Drevenik Rock Town

The Dreveník Rock Town is the largest travertine area in Slovakia. It invites visitors with its fissure caves, rock formations, gorges, and even abysses. The most famous of them include the Peklo (hell) gorge and Kamenný Raj (Stone Paradise). Kamenný Raj consists of rock formations resembling towers. The mound was formed from mineral water springs on a tectonic quarry. 

Miloj

The former church tower finds itself in a field between Jamník and Spišský Hrušov. Looking at the tower, questions come to mind: What is the history of the tower? Why is it here? This tower is the last visible remnant of the vanished village of Miloj. The village of Miloj disappeared in the 16th century. And why did the village of Miloj disappear? It had no abundant source of water, so people were forced to leave their homes and resettle elsewhere.
